Kaiserin Elisabeth Tischglocke
Sissi – Elisabeth, Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary. During her own lifetime, Sissi succeeded in creating a myth around herself, which in the 20th century served as the inspiration for numerous films and books (most notably the *Sissi* film trilogy, starring Romy Schneider in the title role). Empress Sissi was renowned for her beauty and slender figure; even today, she remains an admired icon. Empress Elisabeth—known as Sissi—was one of the most fascinating women of the 19th century.
Portrait by Franz Xaver Winterhalter (1805–1873), painted in 1865. In this, her most famous portrait, Empress Sissi is depicted wearing edelweiss-shaped ornaments in her hair.
