The company Victor Schmidt was founded in 1858 in Vienna's 4th district. There were produced chocolate bars and candies, but also Kletzenbrot, jams, pastry and other sweet foodstuffs. After World War II the chocolate bars, sweets, candies, and mainly Mozart Balls were placed at the center of the production. The company Victor Schmidt & Söhne was acquired in the year 2000 by Viennese company Manner.
Victor Schmidt Mozartballs in our personal experience: When I unpacked the Mozart Ball out of the tin foil, I immediately noticed that these Viennese Mozartkugeln were not completely round, but they were flattened on the underside. When I bit them in two, I could see the stuffing: the bulk makes the dark nougat wrapped in the light marzipan and the thinnest layer forms the noble dark chocolate. I always recommend eating the Mozartkugeln at room temperature because – when stored in a cool place - they are too cold and the chocolate does not melt well with other ingredients. In my opinion Austria Mozart Balls Victor Schmidt taste great, are very soft and fine and I prefer them to the Mirabell Mozartkugeln. Victor Schmidt Mozart Balls seem to me more hearty and less industrially made.
