The confectionery company Hofbauer was founded in Vienna-Margareten in 1882 by Carl Hofbauer. In 1972 Hofbauer took over the Küfferle confectionery with its well-known chocolate umbrellas.
August and Josef Küfferle founded their own company in the 12th district of Vienna in 1865, which became known nationwide from 1892 onwards through the invention of the legendary cat tongues. 58 years later, the company landed a second coup: The "Schoko-Knirpse" came into the local shops - the chocolate on a stick won the hearts of children in the candy shops of the time. The parents estimated that the handle kept the little one's hands clean despite the melting chocolate. Soon afterwards the umbrellas were hanging on the trees - a purely Austrian tradition. Due to the great success, the color spectrum of the packaging has been expanded over the years. Today, consumers can fall back on traditional colors such as gold, red and silver as well as modern motifs. The chocolate umbrellas no longer bear the name of yore, instead they are still made according to the old recipe.
