The Wachau, the narrow Danube valley between Melk and Krems, is one of Austria's most beautiful and frequently visited regions. In 2000, the Wachau cultural landscape, including the old town of Krems and the abbeys of Melk and Göttweig, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
